Yap lives in your menu bar. He turns red while someone else is talking, green when they've finished, and starts a timer when it’s your turn.
He knows whose turn it is.
When a meeting app activates your mic, Yap wakes up. When the call ends, he goes back to sleep.

You worry you talk too much.
The clock is for you. It counts from the moment you start, and at four minutes he gives you a look.
You never find the gap.
The green light is for you. He waits out the pauses for breath and smiles when they've actually finished.
He hears that you're talking, not what you're saying.
For the other people, Yapmeter only checks whether there's speech-shaped sound. For you, it waits until Apple's on-device speech recognition hears words on your microphone, and that is what starts the timer. Typing, music and a fan never do.
The recognition runs on your Mac, keeps no text, and is never pointed at the other people. Nothing is recorded and nothing is sent anywhere. It only runs during a call.

Does it record me?
No. It listens for words on your microphone to know when you've started talking, then drops them. The recognition runs on your Mac, keeps no text, and never hears the other people. Nothing is stored and nothing is sent anywhere.
What languages does it understand?
English, Spanish, French, German, Italian, Portuguese, Chinese, Cantonese, Japanese, Korean, Bengali, Gujarati, Hindi, Kannada, Kashmiri, Maithili, Malayalam, Marathi, Nepali, Odia, Punjabi, Tamil, Telugu, and Urdu.
What about Teams, Discord, or Meet in Safari?
Not automatically yet. Pick Listen to All Audio from his menu and he'll listen to everything your Mac plays, for up to an hour or until you switch it off.
Does it know if I'm muted?
No. macOS doesn't tell apps that. If you're muted and talking anyway, the clock still runs.
